First Day!

Parents and Students-

We had a terrific first day of school! It was great seeing everyone today and are looking forward to a great rest of the week.

After the first dismissal of the year the administration and staff reviewed the current procedures. After the first day it appeared to us that there needs to be some changes to ensure the safety of our students. Please be patient as we adjust the afterschool dismissal procedures - we want to do everything we can to have the quickest and safest dismissal possible.

We will be placing signs around to communicate our new plans for dismissal tomorrow. Thanks for your patience as we continure to improve the Herrera Dismissal.

See you tomorrow! Mr. C

  1. Picking up the children after school is a total disater. I stayed there till 4:15 to pick up my daughter. That is way out of control. Someone needs to take action. I know it's the first few days of school. There has to be a meeting and action taken into the after school pick up.

  2. Mr. Carnes,
I was one of the parents in the mass chaos this afternoon. I asked you several questions as did many others. I felt that us as parents were greatly inconvenienced because we were not made aware of the changes from yesterday to today. The presence of the many HISD officers may have seemed to bring order but only brought on hostility in the crowd. A parent that was next to me asked you for answers to his dilemma. He had to be at work by four o'clock. It was 20 till and no children in sight. I was not able to pick up my child until 4:14p.m.
Please communicate with us any changes made, especially from day to day. I know there is pressure that is placed on you and your staff, which I want to commend both of you all. I know working with the public is not very easy and with a crowd like todays, sometimes it's horrible. I want to join this cause.
I applied for a position at your school as an aid through HISD connect. I believe I can be of some help for the better of OUR children.
    Thank you,
    Maria Robles
